ClipSyncer

Your clipboard, remembered.
On every device.

ClipSyncer keeps everything you copy — text, images, files — searchable and one keystroke away, and syncs it between your Macs and PCs with end-to-end encryption.

Free. macOS 12+ and Windows 10/11. Version 1.0.11. Sign-ups are open.

How it works

A small app that lives in your menu bar or tray. Nothing to configure to get started.

1

Copy as usual

ClipSyncer watches the clipboard and saves each copy — text, images, and file lists — with the app it came from. Identical copies merge instead of piling up.

2

Press ⌘⇧V / Ctrl⇧V

A popup opens next to your cursor. Type to search, arrow through the list, and click or hit Enter to paste straight into the app you were in.

3

Turn on sync

Sign in with an email and a passphrase on each device. From then on a copy on one machine is available on the others within a second.

Encrypted before it leaves your device

Your passphrase is the key. It is never sent to this server and never stored anywhere, so nobody but you can read your clipboard — not even the people running the server.

Zero knowledge

The server sees encrypted blobs, timestamps, and an opaque id per item. It cannot read, search, or deduplicate your content.

Same passphrase, every device

Enter it once per device. The app verifies it locally before it ever tries to decrypt anything.

No server? No problem

Prefer to skip accounts? Point ClipSyncer at a folder in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Syncthing and it syncs encrypted files there instead.

Questions

What if I forget my passphrase?

Your synced clipboard is gone. There is no reset, because a reset would mean someone else could read your data. Local history on each device stays intact, and you can start over with a new passphrase.

Does it sync images?

Yes, when you enable it in settings. Images are capped in size to keep sync quick; text and file lists always sync.

Can I keep some apps out of the history?

Yes. Add password managers or anything sensitive to the ignored-apps list and copies from them are never recorded.

Does it run in the background?

It sits in the menu bar on macOS and in the tray on Windows, and can start at login. The popup only appears when you call it.

Is it free?

Yes. The apps are free, and this server currently has no quotas.
